Peace Now

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

The teachers are right. So are the medical doctors, the social workers, the nurses, the policemen, and basically every civil servant in Israel’s public service. They all should be paid much better. Also right, of course, are the ‘beaurocrats’ from the ministry of finance. The only one that’s wrong is the head of the teacher’s organisation, who declared recently that he’s about to lead a “social revolution” and that this is no longer a teacher’s strike but a “war for the future of a welfare society”.

The Bright And The Pivot

Monday, May 14th, 2007

There’s this anecdote about Einstein and the student. It goes like this: a student goes to see Einstein. “Prof. Einstein,” he says, “look, I have this notebook I keep just for ideas. Every time I have a good idea I write it down in this notebook, so I don’t forget it.” “Very well,” replies Einstein, “my good ideas are relatively few. Every time I have one, I just remember it.”

Road Accidents

Monday, May 7th, 2007

Since I have a girlfriend that lives in Haifa, I find myself sleeping there from time to time. As a side efect, I occasionaly drive from Haifa to Hertzliya in the early morning (usually, when it happens, I leave Haifa around 06:00, and get to my work - hopefully - around 08:00, after the normal morning jams on the coastal road). I did this, for example, yesterday, on Sunday morning.

Say Yes

Wednesday, February 14th, 2007

A Syrian “guerilla” organization (yes, I know, there’s no such thing) anounced yesterday that he holds Guy Hever, an Israeli soldier who’s been missing for ten years. They demand 9 Syrian prisoners that are currently held in Israel in exchange for him. There is one obvious response to this publication: say yes.

Some Comments on the debate that followed Ramon’s court decision

Monday, February 5th, 2007

Make It Twenty

Tuesday, January 30th, 2007

That’s innovation… it is a world breakthrough … our R&D worked on it for three years … The number of blades in the razor will get as high as the customer likes, whatever is comfortable for him… if he wants twenty, we’ll give him twenty blades…

This quote belongs to Sofi Blum, the manager of Procter and Gamble Israel, who was interviewed yesterday to a newspaper regarding the new campaign they set for the “Gillette Fusion” shaving razor, that her company represents in Israel.

Dangerous Vehicles

Tuesday, December 26th, 2006

There are some subjects, which seem to be constant debate issues: like political opinions. Like the amount of harm caused by drugs, alcohol, or smoking. Like the amount of danger in motorcycles. Every now and then these subjects rise, everyone seems to stick to his opinion, until the next time.

A Word On Israel’s Energy

Sunday, December 3rd, 2006

Some things have obvious solutions, but you know it would take years until someone applies them. Such is the energy manufacturing in Israel. Everybody knows that the current power stations cost us too much. Everybody also knows some of the solutions that we already have. Alas, it will take years until somebody applies them.

One Remark on a Dead Minister

Saturday, November 25th, 2006

Lebanon’s industry minister, Pierre Gemayel, was assasinated last week in Beirut.
I don’t have much to say about this ordeal, just one small side issue that I noticed, and seemed to slip from most reports in the media.
