One Insight
I received today my marriage certificate from the Rabbinate. This means that officially I finished my business with the Rabbinate for (hopefully) the coming few years. Now I can share one insight with the world.
One of the main conclusions I draw from the marriage process is this: legal civil marriage is a necessity in our society. Not because people will use it (I hope they won’t; I do believe that a religous wedding is the proper way for an Israeli jew - even if secular - to get married), but because the Rabbinate must feel that they have competition. Currently, they behave like a bad monopol - and this must change.
