Dangerous Vehicles

Tuesday, December 26th, 2006

There are some subjects, which seem to be constant debate issues: like political opinions. Like the amount of harm caused by drugs, alcohol, or smoking. Like the amount of danger in motorcycles. Every now and then these subjects rise, everyone seems to stick to his opinion, until the next time.

Bad Art

Sunday, December 17th, 2006

At first, I thought it is a joke. Then, I thought it is probably an Australian initiative - for some reason, it fits the way I think about the Aussie way of life (I apologize if I hurt anyone, it is just that aussies seem to have this light-minded view of things; I actually hold it for them and pretty much envy them for it). I mean, you could expect guys that deal with rocks and continents to rely on something… less fragile. It seems, however, that this is the best they’ve got: they even like to date rocks by the types of fossils you find in them; other methods (e.g., radioactivity, location relative to other rocks, etc.) are also used - but life remains are much more central than what you’d imagine. Anyhow, a few days ago a couple of friends asked me a bit about it, which gives a good opportunity to dig a bit into the largest timescale on Earth: the geological timescale - and its close connection to the evolution of life, and - funny enough - is divided by mass extinctions, some of them more famous then others. Following is a short summary of the geological epochs: it may be a bit tedious, but I think it is a good general knowledge, and it can do the job in putting us in a proper frame.

A Word On Israel’s Energy

Sunday, December 3rd, 2006

Some things have obvious solutions, but you know it would take years until someone applies them. Such is the energy manufacturing in Israel. Everybody knows that the current power stations cost us too much. Everybody also knows some of the solutions that we already have. Alas, it will take years until somebody applies them.
