Jokerman

On the way to work today, I put on my cd an old collection of Bob Dylan. Listening to his excellent songs, suddenly one lyrics drew my attention. So I found it on the internet and copied it here. The song - actually, a pretty famous one, is called “Jokerman”. Try to guess on which line the guy took extra drugs, and which line caught my attention.

Sleepless Night, or Two Love Songs

I can’t sleep. It is now 2:30a.m., and for some mysterious reason the night sleep escapes me. So I read a few books, and I just encountered two wierd love poems. It crossed my mind that it could be nice to translate them and put them here; I hope I don’t violate any copyrights, and that my free translation doesn’t harm them too much. Here they are:

The Forecast

Two weeks ago, an Israeli soldier was kidnaped in the south, and taken hostage by Hamas into Gaza strip. This week Lebanon attacked northern Israel and kidnaped two other soldiers, now held by the Lebanese political movement Hizbulla. Following these two attacks Israel strikes back and big scale military operations are now on-going both in the north and in the south. Until now, dozens of Israeli civilians have been wounded, in addition to Lebanese and Palestinians citizens. I have a few remarks on the hot winds that blow around.

The Rivers Shall Flow

150 years ago, Israel looked much wetter then today. Most of the northern valleys were swamps. The dead sea was dozens of meters higher then it is today. Another lake - the Hula - existed. Rivers like the Kishon or the Jordan were much wider then today, and much more water passed in them.

Since then, things changed.

My BackPack Is Well Again

My backpack just returned from fixing. As some of you may remember, it broke on me in Brazil, so after coming back home I returned it to where I bought it. It had a lifetime guarantee, and indeed they fixed it free of charge.
