Advice Request

Sunday, May 15th, 2005

Hi Everybody!
I sniffed around a bit, and these are the possibilities in the car market here:

1) I can buy myself a VAN, equipped with anything including bed and cooking stuff.
2) I can buy myself a ford falcon stashen, which is a big car very common here.
3) I can buy a holden, which is another stashen wagon, although a bit less popular.

The main advantage of a van is that it saves a lot of money in sleeping (sleeping here costs 20$-25$ a day in the cheapest dorms, so it is a lot of money), and it allows easy camping.
Besides this, the market here is really good - I expect to buy the vehicle at about 2000$, including the test.

I wanted your advice - what would be best for me to buy?

Thanks everybody!

Falling Leaves

Sunday, May 15th, 2005

It is late autumn in Sydney.
The first thing I felt when I left the airport is that the trees are changing colors, the leaves are falling, and the light here is soft. To complete the atmosphere, the sky is grey and it is a bit chilly.
Great weather.
The bus took me through some parts of the city that look just like a Londonian suburb. Small buildings, many of them with red brick walls, most of them with roofbricks. Large streets, with anglosacson people talking english. Like I said - London.
I took a bus to Bondi beach, which is the Israeli quarter of Sydney. Without knowing to much, I asked someone on the street for a “jewish center” and arrived at the local Habad house.
The man there was very nice. He phoned some other guy, who came with a van and showed me an appartment. Thus, I hired a place in an Israeli appartment here for a couple of days.
My premier aim right now is to buy a car and leave Sydney before winter (I will have plenty of time for Sydney at the end of my Australian journey, and probably the weather then will be more appropriate for site-seeing). For this, I will need the money I have in Israel as soon as possible. Therefore, first thing tomorrow morning (today is Sunday, so everything is closed) will be to open a bank account and transfer its details to Israel. In the meantime, I enjoy the Israeli district - I’ve eaten Falafel, everything is done here in Hebrew, and things are going well.
